Cockapoo Maintenance...

Keeping Bijou in Tip Top Shape...
There are tons of shots you have to get for your puppy. When we picked Bijou up from the breeder he had the first round done, but advised us not to take the puppy for walks until we have completed all the shots.
We also wanted to have Bijou spayed (long story about that coming), so we went scheduled all the appointments.
We contacted a Veterinarian in the area, the prices were outrageous! We decided to take her to the SPCA Veterinarian Clinic, I figured they are experienced in dogs, so we were comfortable.

Below are things needed in the first  year (first 12 weeks):
Listed incorrectly, let me know.

  • Wellness Exam
  • Deworming
  • Distemper
  • Adenovirus 2
  • Parvovirus
  • Parainfluenza
  • Rabies
  • Bordetella
We also did a heartworm and Urinalysis test. We would like to use Trifexis. Right now we are using Advantage II, which seems to be working fine for the fleas and ticks, but I want to make sure she doesn't get any type of worms, so I just placed an order for a 6 month supply of Trefexis ($104.00, not cheap).

What is Trifexis?
Trifexis is a chewable tablet that kills fleas and prevents infestations, protects against heart worms, adult hookworm, roundworm and whipworm infections. Your are required to get a heart worm and urinalysis test before administer this monthly pill to your dog.

  • Spay (I have a story about this)
  • Micro Chip - In case your puppy/dog gets lost
  • Name Tag - with your contact information
  • Crate - purchased one, but decided not to use it
  • Bed - I have a few of these around the house
  • Food Bowls - Stainless is the best
  • Food - There are tons of choices
  • Potty Pads - It's amazing how quickly they catch on to this pad
  • Advantage II for fleas and ticks - Changing to Trifexis(pill)
  • Shampoo and Conditioner - I like a clean dog, Bijou bathes more than she should
  • Brush - A good brush is a must for this type of dog, brush often
  • Treats - Who doesn't love a good treat?
  • Toys - Balls and plush with squeaky sounds are good.
